Mark Johnson

Mark Johnson is a strategic and growth-focused executive and board leader with hands-on leadership in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Mark has provided agile financial, strategic, executive management, and governance expertise to publicly held, private equity backed, and startup companies. He is skilled in balancing human capital; strategy, forecasting and analytics; and shareholder and lender interests by serving as a leader and advisor across a diverse range of industry sectors, including healthcare, consumer products and services, consumer packaging, media and transportation. With 30+ years of executive experience, Mark has driven execution by developing a clear vision and strategies, embracing new technologies, and moving with pace.

Throughout his career, Mark has served in various C-suite roles, including CEO, CFO, VP of Strategy, Marketing and Innovation, M&A Director, and Executive Director of Investor Relations. He has guided value creation via differentiated product and service expansion, exiting or outsourcing non-core segments and activities, process simplification and cost reduction, stabilizing workforces, transitioning founder-led businesses to professional leadership, and leading business spin-off and exit processes.

Mark was appointed by the board to serve as CEO of Averhealth, a leading P/E-sponsored national provider or drug testing services to the criminal justice sector, where he led a significant turnaround of this distressed Company. Prior to that, BetterMed Urgent Care’s board appointed Mark to serve as CEO of this privately held operator of urgent care clinics in Virginia. Mark led the development and execution of a 5-year growth strategy which resulted in doubling the number of clinics in 18 months, including expansion into North Carolina. During his tenure, Mark led revenue growth of 315% and a 11x EBITDA expansion in 2021 versus 2016. He also spearheaded the raising of senior debt funding to support growth, before leading a full auction and sale of company to a strategic buyer in 2022 at a 16x MOIC (multiple of invested capital).

Earlier in his career, Mark held financial, M&A and commercial leadership roles with MeadWestvaco, GE, Sara Lee Corporation, Miller Brewing Company and Pepsi-Cola Company, after starting as a CPA with Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC).

Mark earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accountancy from the University of Louisville.
